OK guys I have Generations

Yesterday evening I got the license code for Generations (digital download), so I was real happy the waiting was over !
So I started up the EA download manager and downloaded Generations.
The download was fast and no problems so far !
Then everything changed when I tried to install Generations... I got a message you need to update your game first. So I started up the the Sims 3 Game Launcher and clicked on "update", the game continued to say my game was up to date, so I was like, ehh...???
I tried the whole thing again, the same result !!

I decided to go to the sims 3 site and checked out the forum. I immediately saw many simmers with a similar problem. Oh EA !! Another patch / update screw up ??!!
After a while I found a link for a manual update and install to V1.22. I downloaded the file and installed the patch / update. After that I could install Generations !! Yayy !!

I started up the game, so the screen went black and remained black... then I saw a message which was saying something like: "You've have installed an unofficial update pack, this might lead to your game crashing. Do you want to continue ?? Yes / No". Hmmm... this didn't make me feel happy, but I decided to continue. Next up was the new Generations page loading screen, but on this page nothing happened and the green bar didn't fill. After 15 minutes of nothing happening, I decided to break off the game. So I wasn't able to start up the game anymore !!
THANKS EA !! I was furious last night; after blowing of some steam, I decided to call it a day.

Today I started again, trying to get the game working. I decided to uninstall the Sims 3 Base Game and reinstall it. After installing, I ran the update and started up the game. Same as yesterday....
I decided to run the game with an empty My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder this time and started up the game again. It worked !!
Then I ran the game again with all the stuff in the Sims 3 folder and the game, didn't start up again. So it had to be my CC !!
I did have a long and serious look at my mods\packages folder and I took out the aWT slider hack mod and started up the game again *fingers crossed*
And it worked !! The game (Generations) started up, WITH all my CC, sims and saves and stuff !!

I checked out aWT's blog and he's gonna update two mods (including the slider hack mod) soon. So all problems should be solved in a couple of days !!

Now some Generations pics, I haven't found the time to really play yet, but this is what I noticed as new features and stuff

Maybe I have some new in game features pics in the next couple of days !

And remember if you're using the 1.19.44 version of the aWT slider hack, please remove this if you want to install and run Generations with the 1.22 patch / update !!

Probably due to the lack of space on your hard drive, like before. You have to have room for what's called "virtual memory", this is needed to run all your programs and needs enough free space on your hard drive.
Installing a new game to an almost full hard drive is asking for trouble, I'm afraid....

thanks for the up about the awt sliders. we wont be getting it for about a month as we are saving for a break away with my mum & Dad at the mo. but when ever i install a new game i alway save everything to my external hard drive then delete everything once i got the new one installed i then look for updated hacks ect. then folder by folder i copy into them my saved files.

also it's a good idea to go through everything in you game and get ride of stuff you don't use much.

lately i've been taking out of my game all of my cc clothing,sim ect. and only leaving the stuff thats in the houses when i'm building. and when i'm creating a sim. i have folders on my external hard drive of cc that are named Loriandasims3,Darkosims3,ALLABOUTSTYLE ect. i only put into my game 2 or 3 folders of cc clothing at one time when creating a sim. and my game runs much faster. so my future sims with be dressed in clothing from head to foot by one or creaters cc.

i cleaned alot of the junk out thought and i dont have one expansion pack added. so i think it just a glitch but i am not sure.

When I saw the "mess" on the EA forum last night, because of the problems with the patch and stuff, I had like a World Adventures déjà vu feeling !!
It's definitely not a glitch free EP !! Cause I saw there were more problems with Generations

@Stevielee...of course ea wasn't going to put out an ep glitch free...c'mon...why ruin their already disappointing reputation... I actually already just assumed there would be glitches...just not sure of how great they would be or in what area. Luckily and so far they seem to be somewhat fixable...of course this is only day 2 of release.

@Brian...yep...I do the same thing...basically start from scratch in installing a new ep pack. It's just easier that way and less time consuming than having to go back in later and do it. Luckily I'm not on mod overload and the mod I use is aWT's and he is so awesome with his updates unlike some other creators. I remember the last update and he had his ready on day 1 of the release!!!

So...it might be a good thing that I'm not getting this until the 1st of July...maybe by then all the known glitches will be aired out and fixed and the game more playable.

Great news aWT has updated the slider hack (here), I've checked my game and everything seems to be working properly now !!

I got Generations at midnight of the 31st from wal-mart. It was perfect the first night, but after that it's been rather slow. I just installed the update so hopefully it doesn't ruin my game!

Did you know you can now put your sim in cas using 'testingcheatsenabled true'?? You don't have to have generations to do this, it's included in the update!!! What I've been needing from the very first day of release!!!

Now maybe I can get sims out quicker because I won't have to go through all the bs just to tweak them!!! I'm doing my happyz dance!!

Oh darn...can't get to aWT updated slider hack because he has made the item private on media fire and shut down comments for this update on his blog. What gives? Anyone have any answers?

CeCe I was away fixing my game! But everything's working now thankfully! Now I'm just waiting to get a new gaming laptop so I have a better time playing sims. :D

I finally got on aWT and the slider update is working wonderfully now!! Timergirl I'm glad you got your game fixed, up and running...I hate the headache of new patches, updates and eps but once all is said and done it seems to be somewhat worth it all!!


I'm enjoying the new updates actually...I'm even wondering if I still want to own generations. I say this because I rarely get to play the actual game and the update pretty much took care of my needs game wise.

It will be a gift so I won't turn it away and maybe sometime I will find time to actually play it for a bit!!

I love this expansion pack! I like pranks, tree-houses, chemistry set and everything.

I have generations !

Imo , generations is awesome to make the game more realistic. When ure a kid u have so many things that kids do other than watching tv play computer and do their homework and swing or use a playground.. So generations brings that up (example), its also awesome how u can make pranks as a kid, and actually get grounded Its really good to build up a better connection and relationship between you and your kids aswell, such as something here i find SO CUTE:



not to mention i find it super funny how u can have an imaginary friend altho my imaginary friend doll disappeared this time O.o

My daughter loves to booby trap all the seats in the house with the whoopee cushion and make other Sims sit on it!

The Telling ghost stories action is cute too! Love having my girl tell ghost stories to her imaginary friend!

btw my game must be bugged, i could claim here (and im 99% sure) that my graphics are all almost in the max. except draw distance, and i dont see such effects like the skull when telling ghost stories O.o

I have generations... well I have all the adds except for fast lane and hidden springs...

I personally have not gotten to 'play' generations that much.. busy busy busy

but what I have seen I like.. the sliders for age options.. nice to make a baby 1 day and a child 150.. lol

I like the little water slides as well and a lot of the new objects.. costume chest.. just really cute.

If you like legacies or breeding sims generations is an expac that you would enjoy!

Also have Generations and actually all the expansions. That means Pets too.
Bought some weeks ago both ot them in different stores. Got Generations for €29,99, as it was hard to get. Only FRS got it. I haven't got any stuffpack so far.
Generations is a good expansion, if you compare it with the bleak world adventures. It adds some nice options, like a chemistryset, pillow fighting, midlifecrisis, practical jokes and such. I only don't like that facebook crap, but you can turn that off. I don't have facebook and will not use it. Mark Zuckerberg doesn't get my personal info.

Shows you how much I've NOT played Generations, I didn't know it had anything to do with Facebook! How is this done, how does it work. I don't want facebook intermingled with my Sims.

CeCe it's done through the memories section of Generations, each time your sim does something like having their first kiss it becomes a memory. A pop up box will then show at the top right noting you of this. I think it either asks you if you want to share that memory or you do this from the journal but it isnt automatic so it wont connect with facebook unless you tell it to.
